Water Valley Loop 2016, solo adventure this time !

Image
Well, it is always tricky to squeeze in my schedule a long ride.... specially when all I want on weekends is to spend time with the kids and Maria. So, the only way to do it (at least for me) is to add more hours to the day... and since that is not quite possible, then waking up at 3:30am to start riding your bike is the only option ! or you can go for a shorter ride and forget the adventure..... Following Kate and Craig always inspire me (I should start following a chef or someone else and get different inspiration) but, anyways, I love biking and I love long endurance days... The weather was kind of nice and the conditions overall were good, so I did a bit of planning and prep my cx bike for the trip. Put on an extra bag to carry extra food and gear, and use some lights for the first 3 1/2 hours (out of which I only had lights for 2 1/2 since the battery started to die right before Water Valley :::---)) the night riding on back roads was a bit spooky I have to admit .. even tho...

Fat Biking in March.....

Well, I guess it was about time for me to get on a Fat Bike and give it a try ! yeap, I guess I have now crossed to the dark side #$@% @^ I rented a Fat from "Nomad" (awesome guy in Kijiji that homes deliver and pickup any sport equipment you may need). It was a heavy bike, but with studded tires and ok components (I wish I had a carbon one thought, specially for when I had to drag it up the hill after crashing and not been able to stay on my feet due to the icy patches !!). I joined Amit and Andy for the adventure and we rode from Station Flats on Saturday morning. Rode up Pneuma, then up to Moose Mountain, down to Moose Packers, then Ridge Backs 1 and 2, then up Snakes and Ladders, down BobCat, up and crashes on Ridgeback 3 and 4, to finish at Station flats with a very muddy bike and clothes... Having better studded tires would have made the difference, but it is a rental.. I like the fact that the heavy bike didn't weigh me down, although I was feeling the pain afte...
