MEC 7 42.2km Marathon, October 22nd 2016 !

Image
There you go, I committed to run my first Marathon before I turn 40 and I did it !! Somehow I got in my head a 3:10:00 as my goal and made it! with a finish time of 3:07:58 I am now an official Boston Marathon Qualifier !!! 10 weeks ago when I decided to sign up for this Marathon I ramped up my training and started to put in more distance and intensity. I hooked up with Ryan Twa and he kindly invited me to run with his team, some weird workouts, but since I am not to picky with that, they all fit my needs ! We also live close to each other, so commuting to and from work was something that worked out ok for both #@#@#$ One of the training days (the longest I ran) was a 27km with an average pace of 4:40min/km. Early morning 7.30AM on a snowy day ! sloshy and cold brrrr The weekend prior to my race I decided to take it easy, and rested well on Saturday, however did a stupid dirt bike ride of 4 hours on Sunday that beat me up pretty bad.... my ...

Dirt Biking with a YZ125 (167cc) in Waiperous

Image
It was about time to try it out and rip some trails with 45HP under!! I went out with Ross and tried out his YZ125 (which is actually a 167cc after an upgraded cylinder). So much fun, but scary at the same time. Too much power to control and 10 times heavier than a bicycle ::--)   Going up is not a problem if you have the right speed and momentum to keep the bike away from skidding to much, it was wet and slippery roots made much worse ! I ended up in water puddles more that once.. He has 3 bikes, a Husky 250cc with a 300cc kit on it, a Sherco 300 4 strokes and this YZ. All of them ride very well, although from all the lifting I had to do I would consider to get a YZ125 myself since it will be easier to handle and move around if I get in troubles in the bushes.. I bought Nick and the kids a mine JR50cc Suzuki which is a blast ! Nick is very cautious and still in training, where Lucas is a natural giver and all he wants in gas and speed. ...

Golden 24, June 18-19, 2016

Another great weekend to celebrate life ! great company with my wife, kids, my mother in law and many riding friends to hang out with !! At only 3 weeks after my last 24 hours race in Spokane, I was still tire but ready for another one. I was signed up for Golden 24hours since last year, so I didn't have a way out ::---)) the forecast wasn't promising and with plenty of rain in the radar I considered several times just NOT to go.... but, there is something about commitment, and once you cross the line back, it will be easy to back out again and again... so, always move forward ! even if it is at slower pace (that is my mojo !). Took a vacation day from a busy office and headed to Golden early morning on Friday. Got there and set up the camp for the weekend thanks to my buddy Steve S and family that kindly picked up a site for me right beside them. We hanged out as usual with the kids and went to town to shop last minutes items.. like ice, coke, and c...

24 Hours Round and Round Spokane WA 2016, May 28/29

Well, it is always a challenge to pick a starting point to write this, so many memories, so many wonderful times... I guess I will start by saying that this year was one of the best road trips with the family to Spokane, the camping was great, the company, the places we visited, the few hotels we stayed in, and the joy of the kids running through the hallways of a fancy hotel. This time we visited the Spokane Water Falls that have been on our list for a few years already, as well as the carrousel and few other attractions around the area. On Friday we set up the pits and left everything ready for race day, the camping area was less busy than previous years, but I guess it is due to the fact that there were at least 300 people less registered for the race. I had pretty much the same set up than in previous races, however I did had less planning food wise.. Although Maria brought me in the traditional Burger King at around 7pm, the rest of the food that I had prepared wasn't a...

BMW R1200 GS Bike Set up for adventure MTB

Image
Great adventure yesterday on the BMW and my single speed companion... As usual I decided last minute to take a day off from work and venture on the roads for a trip to BC-Golden (260kms from home) to pre-ride the course where my next 24 hours MTB race will take place ! Yes, luckily I hooked up with Jason, Steve and few other guys and had a really cool trip. I have been wanting to take to BMW for a longer ride and yesterday all the conditions aligned (good forecast weather, good group, banked time at work and great supporting wife !! I left home at around 6:30am after setting up my single speed in the back of my Bemmer. Met at PetroCan at 7:00am and took off. The weather was a bit too cold on the bike, but I was dressed with plenty of layers and stayed warm. Once in Golden, we got ready real quick and started to pedal to find the trails. Most of the trails seem quite technical, and some very rocky, it will for sure be a very interesting ra...
