Christmas Couloir and Dark Night, Ski trip #14 of 2022 season

Image
Black Prince We have been planning for a while to ski a Couloir that amit told us about called "Christmas Tree" and we finally did it ! It was a longer approach, but not super steep.... We started at Black Prince parking lot (but left an other car a parked at Sawmill), went up BP and once at the lake we bushwhack for a few kms going northwest. There is a long valley that will take you to the base of the couloir, we headed up and managed to top without many hiccups. The snow was great on both sides, nice and hard to climb on south aspects and loose and deep to ski on the north aspect. When we hit the bottom of the couloir, we went up on the other side to ski down Dark Night, which had better snow than a few weeks back..  Top of Dark Night In the back on the left corner you can see the Christmas Tree Couloir Top of Christmas Tree Couloir, behind me Black Prince Our objective on the very right hand side corner

Great day in the mountains today. Ken, Stefan and I headed for an early start to K Country and decided to skin up to Tryst Lake and check out the chutes. At the top we ski down a nice chute that faces north and had some really good snow. Dow at the lake we decided to go up towards Tent and ski the fan (north facing too) right underneath The Fist @ After that headed up to Tent Ridge were we hike up to hit the summit at the weather station, beautiful day with a great view of the mountains.  After a quick bite to eat we ski down Tent and out by the river to end on the road (about 600mts from the car.. A fun loop with a couple of couloirs to keep things interesting :--) went up from Sawmill and manage to get through the back of Murrays couloir ?? maybe that is what is called. The day was warm and the snow was still good. After the descent we went across and up to Hero's Knob, from there we ski the farthest couloir (again I think is called Dark Night) which actually had a pretty good snow. At the bottom of it we had a single track pretty much all the way to the car. Nice day out !!
