Salty Dog MTB Race 2017, first team in a Co-Ed team

Change is always good!! this year I decided to try a different format on the long endurance MTB races and ask Alana to team up and hammer one lap at a time at Salty Dog. The race is a 6.5 hours, starting at 10am till 4:30pm. This year the weather was perfect for a race like that, overcast and cold, in fact too cold... we even got a hail storm just before the end of the race.
As Maria had some family commitments we couldn't do our annual camping trip this time.. kid of a bummer, but I was already committed with Alana and couldn't back out.
I was planning on riding my Bemmer Saturday morning and come back after the race on Sunday, however my good friend Amit talked me out of it and convinced me to car pool early saturday. Andy ended up going with us as well so it was even better, we talked along the way, had breakfast, coffee, all good.
We arrived to Salmon Arm at around noon and right after picking up the race package and settle in the bed and breakfast we pre-rode the course. It has been a while since my last time on that race.
Gabor was there as well and came with us for a lap. After that we went to the B&B to have a shower and soon after that we met the entire Terrascape team for a nice dinner in the only Italian restaurant in town, lots of carbs for race day  !!
I am definitely not use to stay without the caos of three kids jumping around me, so I decided to go to bed early and re-charge my batteries for next day.
Sunday morning the B&B had prepared a superb breakfast, I can't even tell you how much food was there, but it was a lot ! Excellent couple there is the Log Bog Family Farm.
The race started and I was feeling really good, lap one was fast and I was fresh. As laps went by (I did 4 in 3 hours alternating with Alana every 40 minutes) I was starting to feel crappy, my stomach was settling good and I was a bit uncomfortable. I think that the format of one lap each wasn't the best, you are supposed to be faster overall, but it is hard in your stomach as you don't have enough time to digest and recover. I was riding my SS 32/21 which was a great gear, however I was spinning out in the road.
We placed 3rd place in the 71+ category and were very happy with the results, I had a quick shower and drove back to Calgary with Amit and Andy for 6 hours to get home at around 2am..... hard day in the office on Monday, but overall happy with the weekend racing with the team.
