Battle Creek Showdown 2025, first MTB race with my kids !!!

What a blast this weekend, I signed up for a 4 hours MTB race with Amit and decide to registered my kids in the same race (Nic and Lucas). We camp at Cypress Hills Provincial Park south from Medicine Hat to be on the race venue. Left Calgary Thursday afterwork and with a 4 hours drive we arrived to the park just before dark.. We have been camping in that park since 2011 (Nic was only 6 months old at the time and it was a great place to camp, bike and enjoy a nice lake).

The race format in a team of two is that everyone must do a lap at the time, and once the rider has finish the lap the next can go out. Nic started with the first lap with a lemans start. We pre-ride the course the day before and they knew what to expect, no surprises except the fact that they were going to be going at race pace !! I did the first lap as well with Amit in a team of two, and when I finished we waiting for Nic and Lucas went out for lap 2, Nic seems happy and was pump !! Lucas went out and finish his first lap a few minutes faster than Nic. Nic went out again for his second lap that went very well and almost same time 52 minutes +/-.

The cut off time was 1:30pm, so if you come through before that time, your team mate can head out for the last lap, but if you miss the cut off then you have now finished.. As we were waiting for Amit and Lucas to come through before 1:30 we could feel the tension ! Nic was ready to go if Lucas came through and so was I. at 1:29:42 sec Lucas came through !! and Nic went out, Amit didn't make it so I went with Nic on his last lap.

I came 2nd with Amit and secured some "Corn", Nic and Lucas came 9 of 11, not bad for their first race ever, 5 laps, amazing job.
