Peyto Lake Hut and across the glacier, up to Mount Baker (March 13th)
First time crossing a glacier in the Rockies. When Andy asked me to bring a climbing harness for the ski day I wasn't sure what to think... It was a warmer day as Spring ins around the corner and we needed to start early. Left Calgary at 5:15am to get there just before 8.
The idea was to cross the Wapta Ice Field, but with high winds we had to turn around at the top of Mount Beker. We ski down in fairly good conditions, although no powder to be found. At the research station we had to walk a bit and hike down the scree, but soon after we had a great drop to ski down to the Peyto Lake.
Awesome day, 1,600mts elevation gain and around 8 hours on the skis.
