Pulpit, Ski trip #4 of 2022 season

Last day out before heading out to Florida for the holidays.. This time Amit, Andy, Stefan and Mark… well sort of Amit, at least for the driving part of the day as when we were getting ready at the car his binding had a malfunction and broke into pieces, leaving him back he decided to drive Stefan’s van to Lake Louise and try to fix the binding or rent skis for the day.
We had radios and decided to stay in contact in case he did come back.
We left Calgary at 7:00 and due to avy conditions we decided to ski in the tress at Pulpit, we would only need to be able to cross Hector Lake, which this time of the year is not quite frozen yet. Holding our breath and with Andy in the front checking the ice every few meters we managed to cross the 400mts lake without breaking the ice !!! OMG stressful. We discussed the strategy if something ever happens and without a rope we knew we had to be extra careful.
Once on the other side of the lake and with snow coming hard we started the climb. After about 15min in the climb Amit radio us to let us know he had rented skis and was already parked on the hwy. We told him we would meet him at the lake to watch him crossing. We heard a loud F&$&@ when Stefan told us Amit locked himself outside the van leaving the keys inside …. Bummer !
We turned around and continued the climb as Amit now needed to call AMA and try to open the van.
I think Amit gave us reasons to laugh all day long of his bad luck today...
Once at the top and after breaking trail knee deep we had one amazing ski down. I have never ski in that much snow, unbelievable for the Rockies area.
We put on the skins and went up again two more times. There was enough terrain to stay out of previous tracks. Only saw 2 boarders and a group of 5 skiers going up the entire day.
We heard back from Amit and told him that will meet in about an hour. We managed our way down to the lake with a bit of bushwhacking and after crossing the lake we pretty much stayed on our tracks all the way to the van.
Epic day to say the least !
