Cathedral Mountain, Ski trip #9 of 2022 season

Image
Mega super duper adventure on Saturday. Second time going up Cathedral Mountain and skiing all the way to the car. Another beautiful day to be in the mountains, hot in the way up and cold in the rappel section with strong winds to keep things excited // From the top the ski down is super sketchy and actually terrifying ! the smallest mistake and there will be body recovery happening.. A small avalanche was coming down as we are passing the hot traverse, nothing serious, but due to the proximity was a bit scary. Going up to the summit the snow was good, not a lot volume, but it wasn't icy at all. Few spots were a bit icy but minimum. The rappel section was nicer than the previous time, with good snow we were able to ski down to the rock where we could set up the ackers, Amit and Andy rappel down with the skis on, I took mine off and put them in the backpack. From there the ski was phenomenal, boot deep powder with the conditions getting better as we went though.      ...

The hike up all the way to the Elephant Rocks takes around 2 1/2 hours and is only 5kms with less than 500mts of elevation gain.  We took our time at the top and the kids played on top of the rock for a bit. After that and with the skis on the managed their way down to the lake without any problems... It was flat at the lake for about 1.5kms (it sucks !) it was tough on them trying to move forward with the skis... Lucas took them off a few times, but after the lake we managed to ski down to the car without stopping for about 3.5kms. Awesome day overall, no accidents and with great memories in the ...
