We are getting to the end of the ski season and Stefan and I were the only ones around to get out this weekend.. We decided on a "low expectations" outing and headed to Helen Ridge (which I haven't been on..). Once at the ridge, we did a bit of a scramble to the top of a peak (just for fun), took a closer view from the summit and went down to put the skis on for some turns !
We skied down in a north/east facing slope and the snow wasn't bad.. After that we went up again, but this time a bit north and on the east side we identified a few small couloirs that look attractive to us.
Went up hikers right on the bigger couloir and as we are going up it got steeper ! we looked at the tiny couloir and it was even steeper so we decided to ski down the big couloir once we summit it.
Once at the bottom of it, we went up again. This time went up the tiny couloir, is was steeper and narrower, almost at the top I couldn't boot pack any further and had to make a platform to get ready to ski down. The snow in both couloirs was fantastic, getting out wasn't.. as it was bare and icy. Made it to the car without skins and overall rated to day as a great day out !
