Washington, Oregon, Idaho Aug 2024 !!
Another great camping adventure with the family. This time we planned to head down to Seattle, Oregon Coast, and Idaho for the win !!
We left Calgary on a Tuesday
afternoon and drove down to Sand Point in Idaho, where we spent the night in
our usual Walmart parking lot. After a quick grocery shopping next day we
headed to our first destination Seattle !!! We arrived late and it was already starting
to get dark, tried driving around the city with the trailer, but couldn’t find
a place to park.. We found a campground near Belleview (just 10 min outside the
city) and decided to stay 2 nights so that we could unhook the trailer and go
for the day to the city.
After a morning run in
Belleview, we left to downtown Seattle. The city is beautiful and has a lot to
see, the Fish Market, the first Starbucks, the Amazon Biosphere, the Public
Library, etc.. We had a great time walking around all day ! We left to the
campground and in the morning after a wet and rainy run we left to Olympia (the
capital of WA where we wanted to visit the Legislature Building). The traffic
was chaotic leaving Seattle and a regular 1 hour drive turned into 3 1/2 ! It
was raining and an ok day to be in the car. After a quick visit to the
Legislature Building and a quick tour inside we continued to Oregon (Manzanita,
Nehalem State Park). We arrived there after 9pm, Beny and I went to see (or
feel) the Pacific Ocean, ummm what a great feeling, the waves, the air, the
smell... Next 4 days were pretty much beach time, relaxing and contemplating
the ocean view. We did a few day trips to a Light House as well as to visit
Astoria (first city in Oregon that looks a lot like San Francisco). The days
were hot and sunny, beautiful days on the beach, we even went on the water
(temperature of the water was around 9c brrr....) The kids didn't get tired of
playing in the sand day and night.
I went out MTB in the mornings
to a mountain called Nehalem across the HWY101, great elevation and nice views
from the top/
After 4 days in the Nehalem
Campground we left to Kennewick in WA. Maria wanted to go to a concert to see
Chayanne and guess what he was doing the American Tour and one of the cities
was Kennewick, so after a beautiful drive through the Columbia Gorge we arrived
to Three Cities and have an overnight by one of the Columbia River Dams. Quite
night and uneventful.
Next day we drove by the Toyota
Centre Concert Hall, and spotted an overflow parking where we decided to park
with the trailer and while Maria was at the concert the kids and I watched a
movie in the trailer. Concert needed at around 11pm and we decided to spend the
night in the parking lot as it was empty already and no one asked us to leave.
The next few days we were
planning to spend with friends in Idaho and go to the Silverwood Theme Park !!
what a blast this year, all the kids were tall enough to go in all rides, even
the After Shock !! We stayed in Farragut State Park until Monday and headed
home after that.. 14 days and 3,600kms in 3 States, lots of memories and lots
of fun.
