Northover ridge Loop
More running/hiking adventures ... this time we ran/hiked Northover Ridge Loop (37.5 kms with around 2,000mts gain). I talked Peter Holmes into it and Christina decided to join.. we discussed for a few days the logistic and with a nicer weather forecasted on Friday we all took the day off from work and spent it in the mountains !!
This is not a run to take lightly, as it has a ridge that most people will be really scare to walk across... if you fall to one side, there will be at least 1,200mts glacier drop :--) if you fall to the other side, well you will be in BC for a while..
We left Calgary at 6:00am to hit the trail before 8:00. The first 10 k was an easy run to Forks campground. From there, the climb started all the way to Three Isles Lake !! great little area with another campground.
Then, after some route finding we gained lots of elevation going up to the beginning of the Northover Ridge !! what a view, spectacular to say the least.
Walking on the ridge was a great experience, and when we thought that the worst was over (the ridge), well the downhill part on the scree and loose rocks on the Joffrey side towards Aster Lake was sketchy as hell.. after Aster Lake, there was more downhill to Hidden Lake just before running around the Upper Lake. Last 5 k seemed to take FOR EVER ! getting tire and hungry.
