Station Flats to Canmore with one overnight at at Tombstone 2023
| Tombstone Wardens Cabin |
This has become an annual tradition, at least for Andy, Amit and myself. This year I invited my neighbor Anthony (who was a bit mortify to be able to do two days of 8 hours with lots of elevation), but he accepted to challenge and did amazing !!
We were 7 this year, but close in fitness and were riding together pretty much all the time. We left from Station Flats at 8:00am, up Sulphur, Pneuma, down T-Dub, up Husky Road, down Lomzila and Pistolero.. After a water refill at Elbow, we rode up Powder Face Ridge, down and rode Big Elbow to the cabin. At the start of Big Elbow, my rear tire went flat.. sidewall cut, put a boot and a tube and kept going.
It was a good ride going to up, with a total day distance of 63kms and 2,600mts of gain. Solid ! At the cabin we had pull pork and rice, great choice @ We all managed to get a mattress and sleeping bag, but is was rather a warm night.
Amit was up at 5:50am !! darn... We all got up and started our day with a solid breakfast, eggs, bacon, pancakes, and coffee lots of coffee..
Left the cabin at 8:00 and rode through Elbow Lake and down to the Hwy40. Andrew had a broken derailleur coming down but luckily had a spare hanger.. fixed it up and kept going.
We saw a couple of Grizzly bears on the Hwy and had to way for a car to ride by then as they didn't want to move.
We rode all High Rockies, amazing point to point trail that keeps getting better and better. Lots of down and nice rolling hills.
The clouds were constantly there, but only a tiny little bit of rain on us to keep us fresh.
Just before heading down to Canmore we rode Reclaimer, which was loose but overall good shape.
